Lord Teach Me to Pray

Mission Appeal August 7-8, 2021

Each year our parish takes part in a Mission Appeal.  This year the appeal is by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI). The CMI is the first indigenous religious congregation of India founded by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara in 1831. There are more than 2000 CMI members serving in 35 countries in the areas of pastoral care, education, social apostolate, health care, mass media and ecumenism. Currently more than 110 priests are serving in the USA and many more are serving in Africa, Latin America, Australia and Europe. Please welcome Rev. Fr. Joseph Kattekara, CMI, to our parish this weekend to preach about their missionary activities. Mosaic Installation!

The “IHS” monogram is an abbreviation or shortening of the name of Jesus in Greek to the first three letters. Thus ?????? (I?sus or "Jesus"), is shortened to ??? (iota-eta-sigma). It is sometimes transliterated into Latin characters as IHS or ??C. The abbreviation is meant to reflect the Holiness of the Name of Jesus – something to be revered. Eucharist Lecture Series

Notre Dame Seminary is offering a year-long "Eucharist Lecture Series" during 2021 for the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ Year of the Eucharist! Our fourth presentation will be entitled “The Real Presence of the Eucharist” and will be offered by Dr. David Liberto, Professor of Dogmatic and Historical Theology at Notre Dame Seminary. This event will take place on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, with Eucharistic Adoration beginning at 5:30 PM followed by a lecture and Q&A from 6:00- 7:00 PM. Sacramentum Caritatis

The Sacrament of Love: the Holy Eucharist (part 1 of 3) On March 13, 2006 the Vatican released an Apostolic Exhortation of His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI entitled Sacramentum Caritatis – the “Sacrament of Love” – in which the Holy Father offered “some basic directions aimed at a renewed commitment to Eucharistic enthusiasm and fervor in the Church.” The document offers the Holy Father’s reflections on the Synod of Bishops called by Pope John Paul II at the conclusion of the Year of the Eucharist (October 2004 - October 2005).
