Catholics Come Home

You're going to get used to seeing this logo. Because for the next forty days of Lent, the Archdioceseais running a program called “Catholics Come Home. As part of the program, the Church will run over 17,000 television ads, not to mention radio, print and other media encouraging fallen away Catholics to “Come Home” to the Church during Lent. And to what are they “coming home”? Well, it's not to a building, a “denomination,” or simply our Christian “fellowship.” A clue is in the center of the logo: the Eucharist. They are coming home to our family of love gathered together around Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life. Renunciation of our Holy Father

Renunciation of our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI Last Monday at 5:15am, I received a text on my cell phone from my sister, Ariane, who is a producer for ABC News saying: “The Pope resigned.” I have to say that my first response was “You sure not a hoax?” Most of us were very surprised, and even somewhat saddened by the Holy Father's announcement. And frankly, the word “resignation” doesn't really decribe what happened. Over the life of the Church, there have been at least seven Popes who have done what Pope Benedict did, and it's not really a “resignation,” because there is no one to whom to “resign” the office. Thanks to all who helped cook, serve food, and clean up for the Mardi Gras celebration in front of the church. Special thanks go to head chef, Sharon Obrafta, organizers Hunter Harris and Dan LeBlanc, tireless workers Dana LeBlanc, Marcia Meurer, Laura Finnegan, Betty Frances Miles and daughter Libby, Renee Torina (in for a cameo after her move to Atlanta), and so many others who pitched in over the weekend. A final Permanent Diaconate Inquiry “Information Night” session will be held for those men interested in exploring a possible vocation to the ministry of service as a deacon and who were unable to attend the previous sessions.
