50th Anniversary of his Priestly OrdinationAs many of you know, Father Tom is resident here at the parish. He is a member of the Congregation of the Holy Cross, and lived at Sacred Heart Church on Canal Street until it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Father Tom is the past president of Our Lady of Holy Cross College on the West Bank, and he is currently President of the Willwoods Community (www.willwoods.org), an entity of the Archdiocese of New Orleans that ministers in the areas of faith and marriage, affordable housing, and assisted-care living (Malta Park in our parish). Benefit Concert
The Sisters of the Holy Family will host a benefit concert on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the Sugar Mill, 1101 Convention Center Boulevard. Tickets are $50. Sponsorship is available from $250 to $10,000. All sponsors will be acknowledged in the program along with admittance to the patron party prior to the concert. The concert will feature Grammy award winning "Soul Queen of New Orleans, Irma Thomas, Jazz Master Ellis Marsalis, Charmaine Neville, Sharon Martin, Connie and Dwight Fitch, Philip Manuel, John Boutte, Michael "Soulman" Baptiste, Gospel choirs and Norman Robinson as the Master of Ceremonies. This morning at the Vatican, the Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, officially declared “Blessed” the late Pope John Paul II. The choice of the Feast of Divine Mercy, May 1, 2011 is no accident. Pope John Paul II had a deep devotion to his fellow Pole Sr. Faustina Kowalska and to the Divine Mercy devotion identified with her. In August 2002, in Lagiewniki, Poland where Sr. Faustina lived and died, John Paul II entrusted the entire world "to Divine Mercy, to the unlimited trust in God the Merciful.” The Decree of his Beatification notes, “Since the beginning of his pontificate, in 1978, John Paul II often spoke in his homilies of the mercy of God.
